In addition to ume and mikan, various kinds of agricultural, forestry, and livestock industries are present in Tanabe, utilizing the warm and rainy climate and the deep mountains.

Forestry products Sakaki leaves

Sakaki leaves have been used in Shinto rituals since long ago in the area west of the Chubu region.
Production has been decreasing with the import of Sakaki leaves from China, but Wakayama is the largest producer in Japan, growing over half the domestically-produced Sakaki plants. The mountainous region of Tanabe is the main production area in the prefecture.
Bishako (Hisakaki) leaves placed as offerings and Shikimi leaves used as flower arrangement decorations at Buddhist altars in Western Japan are also shipped from the mountainous region of Tanabe.

Livestock products Kumano-gyu beef

To use Japanese cattle that have been raised since long ago in the Kumano region in the south of the prefecture as beef cattle, the breed has been improved by incorporating the bloodline of Tajima cattle. The fine meat fibers and marbling of the Japanese Black beef that give it a top grade quality and rich flavor have become known under the premium Kumano-gyu beef brand from Wakayama Prefecture.
